Product Description
The Onigiri Tama (rice ball kendama) was created inspired by something very familiar to Japanese people. We carefully incorporated the triangular shape of a rice ball, the seaweed, the pickled plum, and the texture of the rice into the design of the ball. We paid particular attention to reproducing the texture of the rice, so please take note of that. Initially, we considered placing holes at the three vertices of the triangle, but during the final design phase, the overwhelming romantic appeal of the triangular rice ball with its upward-facing convex shape led us to this final design.
In terms of play style, we wanted to express the unique feeling of balancing the kendama, so we applied a rubber coating to the entire surface to make it easier to land tricks. We also added a white ring around the hole to improve visibility, and incorporated a 25mm hole, the largest size that doesn’t interfere with the width of the rice ball.
In terms of tricks, thanks to the coating, basic tricks such as the “Takeuma” (bamboo horse), “Gokui” (mastery), “Umeboshi Getsumen” (pickled plum moon landing), “Sankaku no Kado Isshu Ken” (triangle corner rotation), and “Sukui Ken Fast” can be performed as usual. Even a 5-year-old was able to land the “Gokui” trick on the middle cup in about a minute.
