PROFILE
静岡県生まれ、愛知県育ち。子どもの頃から絵を描くことが大好きだった彼は物心ついた頃から絵描きになることを夢見ていた。
美術学校でグラフィックデザインを学んでいた在学中にニューヨークのモダンアートに興味をもつようになり卒業後、21歳で絵描きになることを夢に東京に上京。しかし、翌年、当時暮らしていたアパートが火災に遭い、絵も画材もすべて燃えて失う。
でも、生まれ持ったポジティブで前向きな性格が これは今一番行きたいニューヨークへ行くために神様がくれたチャンスだと考え、火事から3ヶ月後の22歳、初冬に単身ニューヨークへ旅発つ。日本レストランでウェイターをしながら、当時ニューヨークで活躍していたマーク・コスタビ、バスキアらの作品から刺激を受ける日々をおくる。
一年半の滞在を経て帰国。自分の才能の限界を知り、24歳で夢を諦め、映像制作会社に勤務。それから、絵を描くことから目を反らし続けて19年経った2006年。上野で開催されたジョー・プライスコレクション展にて伊藤若冲の描いた水墨画に衝撃をうける。
2008年、もう一度、絵を描きたいという人生において二度目の衝動にかられ、43歳にして水墨画家の元へ弟子入りし、基礎的な古典技法を学ぶ。2017年11月、初の個展を皮切りに墨絵アーティストとして本格な活動をはじめ、以来クライアントワーク、広告、イベントでのライブドローイング、コンペティションなどへ積極的に活動の場を広げる。
2018年からは日本の伝統文化である墨絵を世界に伝えるべく、海外からのツーリスト向けのワークショップや墨絵の世界観をもっと気軽に身近に手にしてほしいという思いから、「SUMI-e」と「eMOTION」の造語である「SUMIeMOTION」というオンラインストアも開設。2019年には西洋書道家と墨絵のコラボ作品に挑むなど伝統的な技法を継承し、それを活かしながら常に新たな「今の墨絵の世界」に挑み、世界に向けて発信をつづけている。

He was born in Shizuoka Prefecture and raised in Aichi Prefecture.
When he was a childhood, he loved to draw, and he had been dreamed of becoming a painter ever since he could remember.
While studying graphic design at an art school, he interested in modern art in New York, and after graduation, he moved to Tokyo to fulfill his childhood dream… to become a painter at the age of 21.
The next year, however, his apartment caught on fire and lost all of his paintings and materials..
Because of his positive personality by nature, he thought this incident was that Gods gave him opportunity to go to New York where he wanted to go most. So, 3 months after the fire, he left alone for New York in early winter at the age of 22.
While working as a waiter at an Japanese restaurant, he was inspired by the works of Mark Kostabi and Jean-Michel Basquiat, who were active in New York at that time.
He returned to Japan after staying for a year and a half.
At the age of 24, he realized the limits of his talents that he gave up his dream and worked for a film production company.
In 2006, 19 years after he stop drawing and just look away from it. He was shocked by the ink paintings by ITO Jakuchu at the Joe Price Collection Exhibition held in Ueno.
In 2008, at the age of 43, he was aware of a maddening compulsion to paint for the second time in his life. That’s way he became a disciple of Suiboku-ga painter to learn basic classical techniques.
Starting with his first personal exhibition in November 2017, he began his full-scale activities as a sumi-e artist, and since then he has been actively expanding his activities into client work, advertising, live drawing at events, competitions, etc.
In 2018, in an effort to pass on the traditional Japanese culture of sumi-e to the world, he started a workshop for tourists from overseas and opened an online store called “SUMIeMOTION”, which was coined from the words “SUMI-e” and “eMOTION”, with the hope that visitors can more easily to get a familiar view of the world of sumi-e.
In 2019, he challenged collaborative work with western calligrapher with sumi-e painting. He is always challenging something new to “Today’s world of ink painting” with succeeded the traditional techniques to make the most of it and continuously transmitting to the world.
